Swimmingly Good Fashion

Today was my second Essex shoot, I managed to find a pool to shoot in that had the most beautiful butterfly shape in it! I started working with a lovely new model called Emma, who I found on model mayhem and she was brilliant in the pool! My stylist, Youles, and I found the dress in a charity shop for £15 which was great because it matched the palette I wanted to use for styling. I've been working on a couple of rough edits, debating if it should be darker!

My inspiration for this shot was the Micheal Barrymore pool incident, but using a fashion twist, its somewhat obscure at the moment but hopefully will work in the whole series as the final image; 'the parties over'. Everybody keeps telling me to watch The Only Way is Essex, but I don't get why I should when its outside my back door! Its hard to shake the stereotype, but I guess there are people like it everywhere!

Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Bournemouth any more

The last few days I've been busy settling in at home, still doing a retouching job and playing on my iphone! Now I'm back I've started shooting my next project, which is based on the Essex Stereotype but taking it into a high fashion concept. Heres a rough edit of my concept, taking the well know white stilettos, ankle bracelet and tanned legs. I've pin pointed various Essex aspects and will be transferring them into images! Got hold of a bar that was used in The Only Way is Essex, I guess this project is my response to that stereotype the programme has cast on us. Just a bit of humour at the end of the day, but I'm excited as I'm usually quite studio based! Really thankful to my friend Tasha for letting me use her lovely legs in a photo, figured I might crop it into a square!

On the Beach with Surrealism

Just got back from shooting in the dark and cold on the beach for Clare's project again, just tweaked a photo to put up and show the team! The hair and make up was totally awesome again, and I shot in a different type of style to what I usually do. I've been in contact today with a few models from Essex to shoot my final project, they seem really up for doing it and i've got some really good locations for it! I'm excited about going home, but not so much about the mass amount of editing lined up!

Vintage Photos

Today I've been editing my friend Sara's photos! We shot last week in the Arts University studios, for her project she styled our lovely models Mandy and Faith in Vintage clothing, locally sourced! For these images I played around with the Grain filter on photoshop to make them look old, which just added to the wicked styling and make up we had on the shoot (thanks Danielle)!

Tomorrow I'm shooting at the Beach for Clare again which I'm really looking forward to, especially as I managed to rent the Bowen's Explorer Kit for the whole of Easter! Yeahhhh!!

Tired Starlings

Today I shot for Emma's fashion project, her theme was 'Tired Starlings' so she sourced and styled the images! Once again just working on a quick edit, we used the lovely Mrs Mason and Emma's signed friend Raph. I wanted to try and shoot the images soft as its not usually how I work, we had access to an amazing house and I shot using a Metz and natural light

Inspiration

Julia Fullerton-Batten's Teenage Stories are my new favourite set of images, again it is such a simple idea but done so well. Its something I want to do in the next couple of months, I just need to find the right location! I needed some inspiration as I'm stuck in Essex so I'm starting on my personal work, as well as playing viva pinata!

CAP

After last weeks blog showing my DD work I wanted to also put up my final CAP images. After several test shoots with different models I was able to put together 6 final images. I wish I could have done more however finding these 6 did take along time. I would rather have 6 strong images than 8 with weaker ones. I am really pleased with these, I did however use all digital files in the end, but I would love to go back and shoot more in film. Hopefully when I get some free time I can clean up the film scans, rather than leaving them in a folder! I styled these photos myself and had a make up artist come in for the hair and make up!

Gaia

With all our hand ins out the way I now finally have some time to relax, so I thought it share my two final images for the Digital Darkroom project. I have not really written about it on here so here I go! The project was to look at Gaia and shoot two photos for a magazine. I chose to do fashion and the idea of recycling. I wanted the idea to lead on from my DISP work as I loved creating the image, however I did not want to do it all in photoshop, but rather build something in the studio. I did not want to do the traditional dress made out of news paper and create something at a bigger scale than my DISP. I wanted to create a recycled refuge for the 'last beautiful people' using clothes and pretty objects to create it.

This is the double page spread for the magazine, I used shirts and lampshades, adding in a few things on photoshop and playing with the tones until I found something that worked.

I wanted the front cover to be more punchy than the double page spread, I used the same type of editing. The origional was very bleached out so I spent along time reconstructing her hat, adding most of the texture back in to the highlighted areas.
